Existing Residential Building Location: Prenzlauer Allee 20, Berlin, Germany Installation: December 2007
Before the vegetated green roof overburden is installed, the waterproofing membrane must be completed and tested for leaks. This roof has many penetrations, but they have been clustered together so that the non-vegetated zone is smaller than otherwise.
A protection fabric, drainage plate, and separation fabric are being laid over the waterproofing on the front roof. Berlin’s Fernsehturm (TV tower) is visible in the background.
Growing media and washed river stone in separate supersacks are unloaded with a forklift from a delivery truck.
Supersacks of growing media and washed river stone are placed in a lay-down area and prepared for the crane.
Growing media has been distributed on the rear roof. The remaining supersacks contain washed river stone, which will be distributed by hand later. The full supersacks are spaced well apart from one another so that the weight of the material does not damage the building’s structure.
Growing media has been distributed on the front roof. It will be leveled after washed river stone is distributed.
